Wiring an Extel Video Intercom to a Motorised Gate

Opening your gate from the intercom screen: it is the most requested function when installing an Extel. The connection rests on a simple principle: a dry contact from the monitor is wired to the motorisation's command input.

The basic wiring

• Street panel → monitor: 2 wires on most recent Extel ranges; respect the recommended cross-section for the distance (often 0.75 mm² up to 25 m, 1.5 mm² beyond)
• Monitor → power: supplied mains adapter or modular power supply in the board
• Monitor → motorisation: 2 wires from the "gate command" output (dry contact) to the START/PEDESTRIAN input on the motorisation board

The dry contact: the point that confuses people

The intercom's gate output delivers no voltage: it simply closes a circuit, exactly like a push button. It therefore connects to the gate control unit's command terminals, never to its power supply. For a side-gate electric strike, use the second output, respecting its voltage (usually 12 V).

Checks before closing up

1. Call test: picture and sound both ways
2. Gate and side-gate opening test from the monitor
3. Command-pulse setting to match the motorisation (short pulse)
