Jammed roller shutter: the right reflexes before we arrive

First rule, the most important one: never force it. A forced shutter means a curtain out of its rails, broken fasteners and a repair bill that triples. Switch off the control, leave the shutter where it is and call us: on the phone, a technician often identifies the fault with three questions — does the motor make a sound? Is the shutter crooked? Did the fault follow a power cut?

Some jams are even solved remotely: a limit switch upset by a micro power-cut, a desynchronised remote. For the rest, our vans criss-cross the eight departments daily with the common wear parts on board. Most repairs are completed within an hour on site, from €89.

The most frequent roller shutter faults (and their real causes)

• The strap has snapped: normal wear after 8 to 12 years — a quick replacement, and the perfect opportunity to switch to motorisation.
• The motor "growls" but no longer turns: a dying capacitor in 80% of cases, a simple, inexpensive fix.
• The shutter does not respond at all: power supply, switch or radio receiver — a methodical electrical diagnosis.
• The curtain has left its rails: usually after an obstacle or a gust of wind; re-railing and replacement of bent slats.
• The shutter stops halfway or "forgets" its positions: limit switches to reprogram; if it recurs, the motor's electronics are tiring.
• Slats drop one by one: broken curtain fasteners — replaced with unbreakable rigid fasteners.

Motorising your roller shutters: comfort, security and added value

Motorisation transforms daily use: no more strap sawing at your fingers, centralised opening for the whole house, time programming that simulates presence while you are away. Three technologies to suit your situation:

• Wired: the most robust and economical, ideal in renovation where wiring exists.
• Radio: no chasing work, controllable by remote, home-automation box or smartphone.
• Solar: no power to run, perfect for isolated windows or hard-to-reach floors.

We install Somfy, Simu, Nice and Bubendorff motors, sized to the curtain's exact weight — the key to longevity. Motorising an existing manual shutter starts at €179, keeping the axle where possible, with limit-switch setting and programming of your control points. A well-adjusted motorised shutter also means optimised insulation: the curtain seats properly, winter and summer.

Curtain and slat replacement, and new installation

A few hail-dented or bent slats do not condemn the shutter: we replace slats individually (from €90) in the closest colour, or the complete curtain (from €250) when wear is general — box and rails kept, cost halved compared with a new shutter.

For a new installation, the choice lies between PVC (economical, well insulating, modest widths) and aluminium with insulated slats (durable, large sizes, reinforced security — our ground-floor recommendation).
